“Great location and such a sweet little rustic cabin. What can beat a little place to unplug that looks out on Lake Superior during peak fall color time. So lovely. ”
“Such a beautiful area. The campground was basic but met our expectations. ”

Twelvemile Beach Campground sits on the Lake Superior shore about 15 miles (24 km) west of Grand Marais along Alger County Road H-58 (roughly 34 miles/55 km east of Munising), where a stand of white birch frames the entrance road. The campground has 37 sites in all: 36 drive-in sites that accommodate both RVs and tents and a single glamping site; two sites are designated universally accessible. These are rustic, drive-in campsites with no electric, water, or sewer hookups each site includes a picnic table, tent pad, and a metal fire ring with grill grate. Vault toilets and a well provide basic services, and an interpretive amphitheater hosts occasional programs; be prepared for typically little to no cell phone reception. The park notes limited turning radii and parking at some sites and recommends that camper or vehicle/trailer length not exceed 42 feet (13 m). Sites are $25 per night, and holders of the America the Beautiful Senior Lifetime, Senior Annual, or Access passes receive a 50% camping discount. Recreation flows naturally from the campground: the North Country Trail runs through the site and the two-mile (3.2 km) self-guided White Birch Interpretive Trail begins and ends at the campground, so you can step directly into forested hiking and interpretive stops. Three sets of stairs lead down to the beach and there's a day-use picnic area and parking for visitors who come just to spend an afternoon on the sand. Beyond the campground, Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore shapes a varied coastal landscape sandstone cliffs, dunes, inland lakes and waterfalls and supports year-round opportunities for hiking, paddling, boating, fishing, swimming, wildlife viewing, and winter sports. Authorized private outfitters based in the park or nearby towns run guided kayak trips and boat cruises, and pontoon or small boat rentals are available in surrounding communities for visitors who want to explore the lakeshore from the water.
