“We spent 2 nights here. It's a primitive campground. Vault toilets were clean and well maintained (even had a can of flying insect killer in it). There is some road noise. The sites are well separated. Overall we liked the campground.”
“Beautiful rustic pull through site with plenty of room for a tent or an RV. Awesome view overlooking the Sturgeon River. Very clean outhouse! (only 1 for all 6 campsites). Good cell service with att. ”

Flowing Well Campground sits on the western bank of the Sturgeon River in the lower portion of Michigan's Upper Peninsula, roughly a short drive off Forest Highway 13 and about 10 miles from the northern shore of Lake Michigan. The site is small there are six spacious campsites that accommodate both tents and RVs and several of those sites are pitched right along the slow-moving river, offering easy access to water and a front-row view of mature trees and seasonal wildflowers. Each campsite includes a picnic table and campfire ring, and most provide a grill; accessible vault toilets and drinking water are on site. Note that the well water has a heavy iron and sulfur taste that some campers find strong, though it is treated and safe to drink. A group picnic area with tables, campfire rings and grills sits beside a sizeable parking area and shares the same vault toilets and drinking water source. The campground is best known for river-based recreation: the Sturgeon River Canoe Trail passes directly through the area, forming part of a 41-mile non-motorized canoe route that winds through the heavily wooded sections of Hiawatha National Forest with multiple public access points. Anglers will find brook trout, steelhead and salmon in the river, and the calm stretches near camp are convenient for launching canoes or fishing from shore. Beyond the immediate campground, the broader Hiawatha National Forest offers biking, hiking, horse camping, interpretive programs, swimming opportunities, wildlife viewing and even overnight stays at some fire lookouts or cabins plan day trips accordingly. Because fees, reservation rules and seasonal openings can change, check current information with Hiawatha National Forest before you go; the campground is vehicle-accessible from Forest Highway 13, but services are basic, so come prepared for a quiet, riverside camping experience.
