Wolf Creek Campground sits on the north shore of Pomona Lake amid the rolling hills, mixed grasslands, croplands and patches of forest that characterize this part of eastern Kansas. The reservoir itself covers about 4,000 acres and draws anglers and boaters to its coves and point banks; you'll often see fishermen targeting crappie, walleye and channel catfish, while bald eagles, white-tailed deer, wild turkey and migratory Canada geese are regular sights along the shoreline. Three trails around the lake give easy options for short nature walks or longer outings: Deer Creek Nature Trail and Witches' Broom Trail are short, interpretive routes, while the 33-mile Black Hawk Trail loops through a mixture of terrain and supports hiking, mountain biking and horseback riding with multiple trailheads. The campground is convenient to Pomona Dam and the local visitor center, and the nearby town of Lyndon (less than 10 miles away) offers a few restaurants, shops and a notable small Carnegie library for a quick town stop. The campground itself contains 56 sites that accommodate both RVs and tents, arranged into four loops Loop A with 32 sites, Loop C with 7 sites, Loop D with 7 sites, and Loop E with 9 sites so you can pick a quieter loop or a larger A-loop site closer to the water access points. On-site amenities include flush and vault toilets, a shower building, a playground and a ball field, and there's a dump station for RVs; a boat ramp, marina and several bank-fishing spots are a short drive away. Corps of Engineers rangers and the local sheriff patrol the park during the recreation season, and the visitor center near the lake offers educational displays about the area's ecology.
