Outlet Campground sits along 110 Mile Creek on the eastern shore of Pomona Lake, a 4,000-acre reservoir set in the rolling hills, mixed grasslands, croplands and patches of forest that mark this corner of eastern Kansas. The site feels quieter than some of the larger recreation areas on the lake because a heavy tree canopy shades many campsites, and wildlife is easy to spot from camp white-tailed deer and wild turkey move through the woods, Canada geese and bald eagles frequent the water, and anglers chase crappie, walleye and channel catfish. Three nearby trail options make short hikes or longer outings simple: the short Deer Creek Nature Trail and Witches' Broom Trail are good for quick nature study, while the Black Hawk Trail is a 33-mile loop with multiple trailheads that attracts hikers, mountain bikers and horseback riders looking for a full-day or multi-day route. Popular water-based activities across the reservoir include boating, water sports and fishing; hunting and wildlife viewing also draw local sportsmen and women during appropriate seasons. The campground's practical side supports a broad range of campers: there are 36 campsites total 34 Both RV Sites & Tent Sites and 2 Tent Sites and most drive-up sites provide electric and water hookups. Outlet includes a boat ramp, dump station, flush and vault toilets, a shower building, laundry facilities, a playground, a short nature trail and two group day-use picnic shelters, making it a good base for family gatherings or angling trips. Corps of Engineers rangers and the local sheriff's department patrol the park during the recreation season, and a visitor center a short distance away offers educational displays about the lake and its environment. The campground is reached from the K-268 corridor just east of US-75 near the Pomona Dam area (about 24 miles south of Topeka), and because specific fees, reservation windows and seasonal opening dates can vary, it's wise to check the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers or park website before you go for up-to-date reservation and fee information.
