French Creek Cove sits on the southwest shore of Marion Reservoir, a broad impoundment finished in 1968 that covers about 6,200 acres of water ringed by roughly 6,000 acres of public land. The campground itself is compact and deliberately low-key: there are 20 campsites in total, and each one is set up to serve both RVs and tents with electrical hookups. Eighteen of those sites include a canopy shelter (sites 13 14 are the two exceptions), and every site comes with a fire ring and grill for cooks who prefer campfire meals. Practical conveniences are clustered near the loop six community water hydrants, two vault restrooms, a playground for kids, and a boat ramp with a loading dock on the northwest edge of the cove that makes launching quick and straightforward. The setting is a working outdoor-recreation landscape, so the day's rhythm here tends to follow the lake: anglers come for channel catfish, walleye, white bass and wipers, and the boat ramp puts you on the water for fishing, water sports or long shoreline runs. Wildlife is abundant across the surrounding public lands; deer, upland game and a variety of waterfowl frequent the reservoir margins, and the Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks manages large swaths of hunting ground and a waterfowl refuge nearby stop by the project office for maps and regulations.
