“They mowed everything up the day after we arrived, looked real nice. ”
“Navigating through the website was reasonably easy once I got the hang of it. The campsite was now crowded and for that reason our stay was a very nice stay.”
“Cottonwood Point is such an amazing campground. It is one of my absolute favorite places to camp. The sites are such a great size that you can see the reservoir and just relax. Can’t wait to camp there again!”

Cottonwood Point sits along the southwest shore of Marion Reservoir, where a broad canopy of deciduous forest shades campsites and trails immediately adjacent to the water. The reservoir itself, finished in 1968, covers about 6,200 acres of open water and is ringed by roughly 6,000 acres of public lands, so wildlife viewing is a regular part of the stay: white-tailed deer, pelicans, raccoons and a variety of waterfowl are commonly seen from the campground and the one-mile Willow Walk Nature Trail that runs through Cottonwood Point. Anglers launching from the campground's boat ramp or the multiple courtesy docks can expect channel catfish, walleye, white bass and wipers; for hunters, much of the lake perimeter is managed as public hunting land and a waterfowl refuge (a map of public hunting areas is available at the project office). The campground is located just north of U.S. Highway 56 between Marion and Hillsboro; from Marion the drive is roughly four miles on Highway 56 before turning north toward the reservoir. The campground provides 169 sites in total every site is designated for both RVs and tents arranged in three loops: CPOI (134 sites), Loop H (14 sites) and Loop I (21 sites). Sites are generous and heavily shaded, each with a picnic table and grill; Cottonwood Point also includes two group camping areas and two group day-use picnic shelters for larger gatherings. Electrical service is available: 50-amp pedestals include 50/30/20 outlets and 30-amp pedestals include 30/20 outlets (the 20-amp is a standard 110V outlet). Two additional boat ramps are located between sites 62 and 67 for easy water access. Beyond camping and fishing, the Marion Reservoir park system supports boating, hiking, picnicking, water sports, playground use and specialized sport sites for up-to-date information on fees, reservations, seasonal openings and any access requirements contact the project office at 2105 Pawnee Rd, Marion, KS or call 620-382-2101.
