“Great campground. Campsites 1,2 could be repaired and leveled. The host very friendly and take care of everybody. ”
“Better for a van or camper rather than tent to be honest. Access to cove is the best draw, however not much shade. Be careful of people walking through your campsite to access the cove however. ”
“Flat area for tents has no shade, shade is available close to gravel parking area. ”

Arrow Rock Campground sits on the shore of Melvern Lake at the eastern edge of Kansas's Flint Hills, where the last expanses of tallgrass prairie big bluestem, switchgrass and Indian grass roll toward the water. The broader Melvern Lake area covers roughly 7,000 acres of water and 18,000 acres of public land, and Arrow Rock gives you immediate access to that variety: a 4-mile Tallgrass Heritage Trail begins in the campground, and the lake itself is set up for boating, swimming and a wide range of water sports. Anglers come for a healthy mix of species walleye, crappie, channel and flathead catfish, plus black, striped, white and smallmouth bass and hunters using the surrounding acreage may encounter deer, quail, turkey, ducks, rabbits and squirrels. The south side of the lake is more wooded, but the campground has relatively sparse shade, so expect prairie views and open sky more than dense canopy. The campground has 33 campsites that accommodate both RVs and tents; 19 of those sites include electric and water hookups. On-site conveniences include flush and vault toilets, showers, drinking water and a dump station, and there are several picnic sites available on a first-come, first-served basis. For lake access and angling needs you'll find a boat ramp, dock and fish-cleaning station, plus a playground for kids. Melvern Lake operates multiple parks with a range of amenities (some parks offer full hookups including 50-amp service), but Arrow Rock's specific hookups are the 19 electric/water sites noted above. Reservations are enforced under the national no-show policy: if you don't check in with the park attendant within 24 hours of your reservation check-in time, the site will be released and you will be charged $20 plus the first night's fee. For current conditions, seasonal availability and local information call (877) 444-6777 or (785) 549-3318, and you can preview the area with the virtual tour at http://www.photographyoptions.net/images/melvern/tour.html.
