Rockhaven Park Equestrian Campground sits on the south side of Clinton Lake, west of the dam on the Rock Creek arm, and functions as the trailhead for the South Shore Trails. It's the only campground at Clinton Lake that permits overnight camping with horses and mules, so if you're bringing stock this is the place to be. The campground contains 24 sites in total: five sites (#5 #9) are open to any campers and accommodate both RVs and tents, while 19 sites (#1 #4 and #10 #24) are reserved for equestrian use only. Twelve sites (13E 24E) offer electrical hookups. A day-use parking lot sits just outside the loop for riders and hikers who want to access the trails without staying overnight, and the main trailhead is on the north side of the campground a short walk or ride from either a campsite or the day parking area. Facilities are arranged with stock users in mind: several corrals, hitching posts, manure bunkers and multiple water hydrants are placed throughout the campground, and there's a waterborne four-stall shower/restroom building plus a two-stall vault toilet for basic comfort. Other on-site amenities include a picnic shelter, playground and horseshoe pits. All sites must be reserved through the Reservation Service there are no on-site collections and reservations can be made up to six months in advance by phone or online; if you arrive without a reservation you'll need to call the reservation service and pay by credit card over the phone to secure a site. Beyond the campground, Clinton Lake offers a wider range of activities and facilities, from boating, fishing and over 50 miles of hiking, equestrian and mountain bike trails to an 18-hole golf course, a model airplane airport, the Army Corps Visitor Center and the Clinton Lake Historical Society Museum; Lawrence and Topeka are both within about a 30-minute drive.
