Rock Creek Campground sits on the south end of Perry Lake where campsites back up to a dense mixed hardwood canopy on one side and open water on the other, with a scenic road running the length of the campground and delivering frequent shoreline views. There are 80 sites in all: 69 sites accommodate both RVs and tents while 11 are tent-only, and the campground layout includes specific loop counts EDWA (Edwardsville) has 10 sites and PENA (Peninsula) has 6 sites. Primitive camping is offered in a-loop in Peninsula, at Big Rock, and in the walk-in-only Edwardsville Loop for those wanting a quieter, less developed stay. Practical access details are important here: the park is unstaffed, gates are locked from 10:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. on Friday and Saturday nights and for the entirety of holiday weekends (an exit-only lane remains open), and no late entrance is allowed after 10:00 p.m. except for park staff or emergency personnel call the main office at (785) 597-5144 for questions about reservations, fees, or seasonal availability. The campground gives direct access to Perry Lake's broad range of recreation. On-site amenities include a large reserveable group picnic shelter and a playground for families, and the lake shoreline makes it easy to launch boats, paddle a canoe, or rig a sailboat Perry is widely used for sailing but supports all types of watercraft and water sports. Fishing is productive throughout the reservoir (white crappie, flathead and channel catfish, walleye, white bass and sauger are reported), and the surrounding public lands about 27,000 acres managed for wildlife support wildlife viewing and hunting (turkey, deer, quail, pheasant, rabbit, squirrel, duck and geese). Hikers can reach the 30-mile Perry Lake National Recreation Trail that follows much of the eastern shoreline and ranges from gentle southern stretches to rugged terrain and elevation changes in the north, and the broader Perry Lake area also accommodates biking, horseback riding, off-highway vehicle use, and other concessioned recreation. For location reference, Rock Creek is on the south side of Perry Lake; from Perry follow Highway 24 west to KS-237, go north a few miles, and then follow Rock Creek Park Road east to the campground.
