Longview Group Campground sits up on a high ridge above Perry Lake, surrounded by mature Kansas forest and offering a family-oriented setting for group gatherings. The camp complex is organized into two distinct loops: an upper loop with 26 individual 30 amp electric sites tucked into heavy woods at the top of the bluff overlooking the water, and a lower loop that is entirely primitive with a picnic shelter, fire-pit and a vault toilet. Shower and restroom facilities are located near the entrance gate between the two loops. The verified campsite registry for Longview lists 2 total campsites, both configured to accommodate RVs and tents; if you need precise site availability for a large party, check directly with the park or managing office to reconcile the group layout with current reservation listings and policies. Recreation here centers on Perry Lake itself a 12,000-surface-acre reservoir with about 159 miles of shoreline created by the 1969 dam and the extensive public lands around it. The lake is well known for sailing but supports all kinds of boating from powerboats to canoes, and anglers chase white crappie, flathead and channel catfish, walleye, white bass and sauger. Hikers can explore the roughly 29 30 mile Perry Lake National Recreation Trail that traces much of the shoreline, ranging from gentle slopes in the south to rugged, hilly terrain in the north; horseback riders will find separate equestrian trails on the west side of the lake near Perry State Park. Directly adjacent to Longview is an 18-hole disc golf course with elevation changes and tree-lined fairways, and roughly 27,000 acres of nearby public land support abundant wildlife turkey, deer, quail, pheasant and waterfowl for viewing (and regulated hunting). Longview is convenient to population centers: it lies about 17 miles northeast of Topeka and is an easy drive from Lawrence and Kansas City; from the town of Perry the campground is reached by heading north on Ferguson Road then west on 86th Street and following signs to the site.
