“Great campground. Lots of space, clean restrooms, laundry, and disc golf. ”
“We truly enjoyed our visit this year. From the twice daily migration of the geese to the herd of deer on the final day. The guests seemed to be well behaved and actually quiet at night. Such a beautiful setting with a view of the distant lake. ”

Bloomington East sits on the west side of Clinton Lake between the Rock Creek and Wakarusa River arms, where steep bluffs and wooded shoreline give way to open water that stretches roughly eight miles up the Wakarusa Valley and covers about 7,000 surface acres. The park area is active year-round: a large sandy Bloomington Beach is the main summer swim spot (day-use fees apply to non-campers from May 1 Sept 30), and three nearby boat ramps (#5, 6 and 7) put you on the water quickly for boating, canoeing, jet-skiing and fishing the lake is known for crappie, walleye, channel catfish and white bass. Trails around the reservoir (North Shore, South Shore and the George Latham trails) offer hiking, mountain biking and horseback riding within a short drive, while on-site amenities like horseshoe pits, sand volleyball courts and playgrounds make the campground family-friendly. Wildlife viewing is excellent bald eagles, white-tailed deer, wild turkey and waterfowl are commonly seen and the Visitor Center on the northwest side of the dam and the Clinton Lake Museum in Bloomington East provide local history and natural-history exhibits for quieter days off the water. The camping area itself is a mix of family and group options spread across named loops and picnic areas: Bloomington East's inventory totals 313 campsites, of which 309 are set up to handle both RVs and tents and 4 are tent-only. Cedar Ridge (97 sites), Hickory (96) and Walnut (92) are the primary family loops; Oak is a smaller loop of 22 family sites; the Bloomington Recreation Area contains 4 sites; and Elm and Ash appear as single group-camp listings (each designed to host up to about 75 people). Many individual sites offer electrical hookups or electrical-plus-water, and Cedar Ridge, Hickory/Walnut and the Bloomington Beach day-use area provide flush toilets, drinking water, showers and a nearby dump station. Elm and Ash Group Camps are grassy, tent-oriented areas without electricity (they can handle a limited number of small trailers if kept on the gravel circle) and must be reserved for larger groups; picnic shelters adjacent to Bloomington Beach have electrical outlets and may be reserved for a fee or used free on a first-come basis if not reserved. Reservations are accepted for campsites and shelters, and non-campers should plan for seasonal day-use fees at the beach and boat ramps; Bloomington East is a short drive from Lawrence and the University of Kansas, with regional services and the cities of Lawrence and Topeka within roughly a half-hour's reach.
