About

Lone Point sits on the western shore of Lake Shelbyville, roughly a short drive north of the town of Shelbyville off State Route 128, and feels quieter than the busier day-use areas around the lake. The campground contains 64 sites in all: 63 that will accommodate both RVs and tents and one tent-only site, so you'll find options whether you arrive with a trailer or just a pack. Facilities are solid for a regional campground there are flush toilets and showers, a playground for kids, a dump station, and a nearby boat ramp. A separate group camp area is laid out for larger gatherings of up to 80 people and includes 10 paved, electric sites (space for 10 RVs plus 30 tents, or 40 tents alone), a picnic shelter and a water hydrant, making it practical for family reunions, scout troops or hunting parties. Recreation at Lone Point takes advantage of both the lake and the wooded shoreline. Anglers will find a broad slate of species in Lake Shelbyville catfish, crappie, largemouth bass, muskie, walleye, white bass and bluegill and the adjacent Lone Point Day Use Area provides a multi-lane boat ramp and a courtesy dock; several farmed ponds around the lake offer fishing for those without boats. Trails trace the shoreline, and the 11-mile Chief Illini backpacking trail begins nearby for longer outings; hunting lands a short drive away support quail, rabbit, pheasant, deer, dove, turkey, waterfowl and woodcock seasons. The landscape here is heavily forested with oak and hickory, prairie flowers in warmer months and a strong showing of fall color, while songbirds, shorebirds, waterfowl, raptors and mammals such as white-tailed deer, cottontail rabbits and mink are commonly seen. For broader services and other activities on the lake beaches, picnic sites, environmental education, horseback riding, visitor center services and a privately owned lodge and 18-hole golf course at Eagle Creek Resort check the Lake Shelbyville information center; for current fees, reservations and seasonal access details contact the park office before you go.
