Forrest W. "Bo" Wood Recreation Area sits on the northern shore of Lake Shelbyville and feels like a working waterfront for outdoor families and anglers. The campground contains 136 sites in all: 132 that accommodate both RVs and tents and 4 tent-only sites, arranged across seven loops (Area 1: 10 sites; Area 2: 27; Area 3: 10; Area 4A: 28; Area 4B: 20; Area 4C: 14; Area 5: 27). All sites provide electric hookups, and the campground includes flush toilets, hot showers, a playground, a dump station and a high-water boat ramp for reliable lake access. Campsites sit among oak and hickory stands on a shoreline that drops steeply to the water, so many sites have shade and a clear sense of being close to the lake; springs and summers bring prairie flowers to the uplands, and fall turns the oaks and hickories into a patchwork of reds, oranges and yellows. Boating and fishing are the central draws: a campground boat ramp and year-round lake access make it straightforward to put a craft on Lake Shelbyville, which supports catfish, crappie, largemouth bass, muskie, walleye, white bass and bluegill, plus several farmed fishing ponds around the lake for anglers without boats. Beyond the shoreline, the wider Lake Shelbyville area offers beaches, picnic areas, trails, a visitor center, environmental education programs, horseback riding, winter recreation and wildlife viewing; hunting areas are a short drive away and nearby attractions include Wolf Creek State Park, Woods Lake Waterfowl Refuge, Okaw Bluff Wetlands Complex and Eagle Creek Resort with its lodge and 18-hole golf course. Practical details such as current fees, reservation windows and seasonal closures can change, so check the Army Corps/park website (a virtual tour of the lake area is available online) or call ahead before you go; the campground lies on Route 32 just south of Sullivan on the lake's north shore.
