What guests say

Verbatim from guest reviews on Recreation.gov ↗ (483 reviews, ★ 4.0). Not written or edited by us.

“We liked camping at North Sandusky, very nice campsites. We were on a full hookup site but didn’t get to enjoy very much due to the rainy weather. We are planning on going again this spring.”

Scott G 4 · Oct 2025 · Recreation.gov

“Our site was very spacious with a good view of the water without being too exposed to winds. We love to ride the bike trails and the campground is not too hilly to ride in it either.”

Terry O 5 · Oct 2025 · Recreation.gov

About

Perched along Sandusky Cove on Rend Lake, North Sandusky Campground puts water views and easy lake access within steps of your campsite. The campground contains 97 sites each configured to accommodate both RVs and tents and most sites look out over open water or mixed fields and woodlands where deer, wild turkey, raccoon and seasonal waterfowl are commonly seen. All sites offer electric hookups and 16 of them are full-hookup, with a dump station on site; sanitary facilities include hot showers, flush toilets and drinking water so longer stays stay comfortable. The landscape is low and lakefront rather than mountainous, and many campsites open onto short paths that lead to picnic areas and the shoreline, making launching a kayak or settling in for an evening by the fire straightforward. Facilities and recreation are concentrated within easy walking distance: a boat dock and boat ramp sit adjacent to the campground for quick access to the lake's 18,900 acres of water, and a playground and a disc-golf course provide on-site options for kids and groups. North Sandusky is part of the larger Rend Lake recreation area, where you can pursue boating, fishing, water sports, hiking, horseback riding and wildlife viewing; nearby attractions include the 27-hole Rend Lake Golf Course, the Southern Illinois Artisans Shop and privately owned resorts and lodges. Sites are reservable check the park's reservation system or recreation.gov for current fees, seasonal availability and any access requirements and the campground is reached from Route 154 via Rend City Road, just west of I-57 (exit 77), making it a convenient base for both short weekend trips and longer stays on the lake.
