South Marcum Campground sits on the lakeward side of Rend Lake in southern Illinois, where low-lying woodlands open onto broad water views and shoreline access for anglers. The campground's lakeshore location makes it easy to fish from the bank right from your site, launch a boat at one of the many nearby ramps, or spend the day on the water sailing, skiing, or paddling. Wildlife is a regular part of the experience here deer, turkey, fox, raccoon, opossum and seasonal waterfowl are commonly seen as you hike the nearby trails or relax at a picnic site. Beyond the immediate campground, the larger Rend Lake recreation area offers a long list of activities, from horseback riding and environmental-education programs to water sports, visitor-center exhibits, and a 27-hole championship golf course and resort a short drive away. The campground itself provides practical, camper-focused amenities: a total of 160 reservable campsites (140 sites that accommodate both RVs and tents, six RV-only sites, and 14 tent-only sites), and electric hookups at all recreational-vehicle sites. On-site conveniences include a dump station, hot showers, flush toilets, and drinking water, with a children's playground located in the Whispering Pines loop next to the shower house. South Marcum is accessed from Highway 14 a few miles west of I-57 (in the general Rend Lake Dam area), and sites are reservable through the park system check the official reservation portal or park office for current fees, seasonal opening dates, and any access requirements before you go.
