“Loved this place. Hard to get a reservation so book early. We added an extra night and had to move. Still worth it!! Camp hosts were amazing! The beach was amazing. Tons of places tried bikes and scooters. ”

About

Riley Creek Recreation Area sits on the banks of the Pend Oreille River at the downstream end of Lake Pend Oreille, where the long, glacial valley opens between three mountain ranges with peaks rising to about 6,500 feet. The water here is the heart of the place: boat ramps at the campground put you straight onto one of the largest and deepest natural lakes in the western U.S., whose basin plunges in spots to more than 1,200 feet and stretches some 65 miles behind Albeni Falls Dam. Water sports dominate kayaking, canoeing, swimming, fishing, water skiing and jet skiing are common and you'll find fishing piers at the site as well as a trail for hikers and mountain bikers that leads into the surrounding greenery. Wildlife is a regular part of the experience; keep an eye out for bald eagles and osprey along the shoreline, deer in the trees, and the occasional bear reported in the area. For quieter or more organized play, the campground includes horseshoe pits, a beach-volleyball court and a basketball court, and the broader Lake Pend Oreille area supports activities from auto touring and environmental education to historic and cultural interpretation at the nearby visitor center. Riley Creek is the largest recreation area managed for the Albeni Falls Project and offers practical facilities to match: there are 69 campsites in total, 67 of which accommodate both RVs and tents and provide electric and water hookups, while two are tent-only sites. The RAVE loop contains 38 of the individual sites, and there are two group sites for larger parties; two large picnic shelters on the grounds can be reserved for gatherings. The campground's site policy allows an unlimited number of tents on a site provided all equipment fits on the site pad, and boat ramps and fishing piers make it easy to get on the water from your campsite. Albeni Falls Visitor Center, with exhibits on the dam and daily summer tours of the dam, is close by, and the small town of Laclede just south of Highway 2 along Riley Creek Road about a mile from the campground provides basic gas and grocery services.
