“Small campground, rather. No staff onsite. Didn’t love the spot since there was quite an odor either from the pond or restrooms. Restroom facilities were clean.”

Albeni Cove sits just upstream from Albeni Falls Dam on the Pend Oreille, tucked into a stand of firs, cedars and pines that frames a broad stretch of water. The campground is compact 14 sites in total and all sites include picnic tables and grills; nine of the sites can accommodate both RVs and tents, one is RV-only and four are tent-only. A small dock, a concrete boat ramp and a swimming beach put the water within easy reach for launching boats, paddling, swimming and shore-based fishing. The lake behind the dam extends roughly 65 miles through a glacially carved valley that separates three mountain ranges, and the surrounding peaks rise to about 6,500 feet; in places Lake Pend Oreille plunges to depths over 1,200 feet (recorded as 1,237 feet in some areas), so the setting reads as wide, deep water backed by steep forested slopes rather than a gentle pond. Wildlife viewing is a daily possibility here bald eagles and osprey patrol the shoreline, songbirds move through the trees, and deer are commonly seen near campsites. For recreation and services beyond the campground, Albeni Falls Visitor Center is nearby and offers exhibits on the dam and the area's natural history, with tours of the dam provided daily during the summer; the dam itself supports flood control and power production in addition to recreational access. The broader Lake Pend Oreille area supports a long list of activities boating, fishing, water sports, hiking, auto touring, picnicking, environmental education, historic and cultural sites, playgrounds and wildlife viewing so you can mix a few hours on the water with short drives or interpretive stops. Reservations are handled through the NRRS system; note that a $10 service fee applies to reservation changes or cancellations and late cancellations may incur additional charges, so check the NRRS reservation policy for full details. With only 14 sites at Albeni Cove, plan ahead if you need a specific site type or dates.
