Bald Ridge Creek Campground sits on the shore of Lake Sidney Lanier in the northern Georgia foothills, an inland reservoir created in 1956 with the completion of Buford Dam on the Chattahoochee River. The campground contains 80 campsites, each configured to accommodate both RVs and tents and all offering electric and water hookups; there are no individual sewer hookups on sites, but a dump station is available on-site. Campground facilities include laundry, restrooms and bathhouses, a staffed entrance (local staff can be reached at (470) 774-7873), and a boat ramp and swimming beach that put the lake within easy reach of your campsite. Reservations and fee payments are handled through recreation.gov (or by calling 1-877-444-6777); note that cancellations must be made via the online/phone reservation system or in person at the gatehouse cancellation calls to the gatehouse will not be honored. The setting opens onto more than 38,000 surface acres of water and roughly 692 miles of shoreline, which translates into a lot of shoreline to explore by boat, kayak, or paddleboard wakeboarding and other water sports are common on the reservoir. From the campground you can fish from shore or launch for deeper water, swim off the sandy beach, and ride a bike on nearby roads; the broader Lake Lanier area also supports hiking, horseback riding, wildlife viewing and environmental education opportunities. For a change of pace on land, Sawnee Mountain Preserve (hiking, rock outcrops and a visitor center) and the town of Cumming with its shops and restaurants are a short drive away. Seasonal openings and specific site availability vary, so check recreation.gov for current fees, dates, and any access notices before you go.
