“Great stop off area on the way to the Florida Keys, the only complaint would be the lack of shower facilities.”

Mike E 4 · Oct 2025 · Recreation.gov

“We enjoy the break and relative peacefulness of the campground on our way to and from the Keys.”

Mike E 4 · Oct 2025 · Recreation.gov

“Quiet and peaceful campground that was clean and wee groomed. It was just what we needed while traveling through Big Cypress Preserve. ”

About

Midway Campground sits near the center of Big Cypress National Preserve on the edge of a small lake, with campsites arranged so nearly every pitch looks out over open water. The campground contains 36 sites in total 26 designed for RVs and 10 for tents and the RV sites include electric hookups; all RV campers also have access to a dump station. Each campsite comes with a picnic table and a hibachi-style grill, and the loop has flush toilets and potable water on site. Sites are generally open with limited to no shade, and the outer perimeter is lined with a mix of trees, so expect broad sky views and the flat, freshwater-swamp setting that supports the preserve's mix of tropical and temperate plant communities and abundant wildlife, including the threatened Florida panther. Because Midway is centrally located in the preserve and just off U.S. 41 at about mile marker 52 between Naples and Miami, it's a convenient base for exploring nearby points of interest like the Oasis Visitor Center, Miccosukee Cultural Center, Shark Valley and Clyde Butcher's gallery. From the campground you can fish the lake, walk nearby boardwalks, hike and bike into the preserve, photograph wildlife and landscapes, and access hunting and off-road-vehicle routes where allowed; the preserve as a whole also supports paddling, boating and auto touring. The listing does not include fee or reservation detail call the campground directly at (239) 631-9988 for current fees, reservation policies, seasonal information and any regulations (for example, hunting seasons or ORV permits) that could affect your visit.
