“We always use the Walk In sites. They are more secluded, quiet, no RVs & generators. The camp hosts this summer were from Colorado and so nice & friendly. It is an easy walk to Brainard Lake. Beautiful area. It's a wonderful mountain getaway for us. ”
“The campsite was beautiful. All facilities were very clean Loved the easy access to trails ”

Pawnee Campground sits at about 10,350 feet on the shore of 25-acre Brainard Lake, at the foot of the Continental Divide and bordering the Indian Peaks Wilderness. The site is reached from the Peak to Peak Scenic Byway in the Brainard Lake Recreation Area, roughly 14 miles north of Nederland and about 35 miles south of Estes Park and the main entrance to Rocky Mountain National Park. The campground comprises 45 single-family sites 37 that accommodate both RVs and tents and 8 reserved for tent camping only each furnished with a picnic table and a campfire ring. Vault toilets and potable drinking water are available on-site. Summers bring warm daytime temperatures and cool nights with frequent afternoon thunderstorms, so pack layers and be ready for sudden weather shifts at high elevation. The campground puts you within immediate reach of water and trail recreation: Brainard Lake is popular for canoeing, kayaking and trout fishing (rainbow, brown and cutthroat), and nearby Long Lake, Red Rock Lake and Left Hand Reservoir expand angling and paddling options. A network of trails gives access into the Indian Peaks Wilderness hiking is allowed on all trails while mountain biking is permitted on routes outside the wilderness boundary and rock climbing, snowshoeing and cross-country skiing are commonly possible when conditions allow. Beyond walking and watercraft use, the broader Arapaho and Roosevelt National Forests offer auto touring on the Peak to Peak corridor, wildlife viewing, horseback riding and horse camping, interpretive programs, and winter-sports opportunities. For the latest on fees, seasonal access, and reservations, call facility-specific information at (801) 226-3564 before you go.
