What guests say

Verbatim from guest reviews on Recreation.gov ↗ (22 reviews, ★ 4.0). Not written or edited by us.

“The camp ground is always well cared for. The bathroom is always cleaned. Very peaceful and quiet. ”

Michael H 5 · Oct 2025 · Recreation.gov

“There were so many dogs off leash, a lot of noise after quiet time, and not a ranger or camp host in sight to enforce the rules posted. It was a miserable experience trying to shoo strange dogs away from my camp site, and 2 sleepless nights thanks to noisy neighbors.”

Alyssa W 1 · Aug 2025 · Recreation.gov

“Make sure to bring leveling blocks, almost none of the sites are level. The bathrooms were very clean. The sites along the lake are large with good separation. Winds picked up every afternoon. Overall a good place to camp.”

About

Willows Campground sits on the north shore of Green Mountain Reservoir in the White River National Forest, a high-country playground of rivers, trails and rugged peaks. The campground itself is compact 21 standard sites, each advertised to accommodate both tents and RVs tucked along the reservoir where water access drives much of the activity. From your site you can expect shoreline views, boat traffic on warm days and the call of birds and occasional elk in the surrounding lodgepole pine and spruce/fir stands. Green Mountain Reservoir is the local hub for boating, kayaking, water skiing, windsurfing and swimming, and anglers cast for rainbow and brown trout as well as seasonal kokanee salmon. For ORV riders, the Spring Creek area at the northern end of the Gore Range provides a network of open roads that wind up to scenic viewpoints; hikers, bikers and horseback riders will also find opportunities through the broader White River landscape, which supports wildlife viewing, hunting, interpretive programs and winter sports farther afield. Facilities at Willows are basic and focused on access to the water and forest rather than on hookups or full-service amenities. Vault toilets serve the loop of 21 sites, and all motorized watercraft must be inspected for Aquatic Nuisance Species and launched only from a monitored ramp; the Heeney Marina on the reservoir's west shore (below the town of Heeney) is open during daylight hours through the season for additional launch and support. The campground is reached from Highway 9 at the northern end of Green Mountain Reservoir roughly 24 miles north of Silverthorne or about 13 miles south of Kremmling making it a convenient stop for people traversing the valley. If you're reserving a site, note that Recreation.gov manages bookings and once your reservation start date has begun neither the contact center nor the campground manager can modify it; check Recreation.gov for current fees, seasonal dates and any other requirements before you go.
