“Very nice camp ground. Better to go earlier in the year. We went in early September. Not a good idea. Wind and rain the whole weekend. We will be going again. Just early to mid summer. ”
“The views were gorgeous. I only wish we could have had a bonfire, but due to fire bans it was not possible for our trip this time around. ”
“Weather was great , But fire made for hard weekend . Overall very Nice”

Cow Creek South sits on the northeast shore at about the mid-point of Green Mountain Reservoir inside the White River National Forest, reachable by following Highway 9 north from Silverthorne (roughly 22 miles) or south from Kremmling (about 15 miles). The campground provides 43 sites that accept both tents and RVs, and basic comfort facilities include vault toilets; potable water and hookups are not listed, so plan accordingly. Launching boats is a daily reality here all motorized watercraft must undergo Aquatic Nuisance Species (ANS) inspection and must use a monitored launch ramp; Heeney Marina on the west shore below the town of Heeney is open daylight hours through the season and other ramps become available as reservoir levels permit. Practical note for planners: once your reservation start date has begun, neither Recreation.gov nor the campground manager can modify your reservation, so check your schedule and water/access conditions before arrival. The reservoir location makes Cow Creek South a strong base for water sports boating, canoeing, windsurfing, water skiing and anglers will commonly catch rainbow and brown trout and, when conditions allow, kokanee salmon. On land, the campground gives easy access to a larger landscape of trails, forest roads and viewpoints: Spring Creek, at the northern end of the Gore Range, is a nearby destination for off-highway vehicle riding through lodgepole pine and spruce-fir stands. The surrounding White River National Forest (2.3 million acres, with eight designated wilderness areas and multiple peaks exceeding 14,000 feet) also supports hiking, biking, horseback riding, wildlife viewing and winter sports; expect to see elk and bighorn sheep on higher ridges and smaller alpine species such as pika and ptarmigan in the treeless zones. If you want a broader tour, Rocky Mountain National Park and Trail Ridge Road are a reasonable day trip to the east for high-alpine views and interpretive programs.
