Prairie Point Campground sits on the east side of Green Mountain Reservoir about 15 17 miles north of Silverthorne along Highway 9, where campsites look out across open water toward the Williams Fork and Gore ranges. The campground is small 22 sites total arranged in two loops on the reservoir shoreline, so you can expect relatively short walks from a parking spot to the campsite at most sites. The lake is the focal point here: boating, jet skiing, water skiing and swimming are the immediate draws, and anglers will find opportunities for trout fishing in the reservoir and nearby streams. Beyond the shoreline, Prairie Point is one access point into the larger White River National Forest, a 2.3-million-acre landscape with eight wilderness areas, high alpine terrain, abundant wildlife (bighorn sheep, elk, cutthroat/rainbow/brown trout, pika and ptarmigan among them) and trails for day hikes, biking and horseback riding. Facilities are basic and oriented toward self-sufficient camping: each of the 22 sites includes a picnic table and a fire ring, and there are vault toilets in the two campground loops. Most sites are walk-in with a parking space directly in front; a few of those parking spaces are long enough to accommodate small trailers, and all 22 sites are listed as both RV and tent sites (note that long RVs and large trailers may not fit). Reservations are handled through Recreation.gov; be aware that once your reservation start date has begun, neither the Recreation.gov Contact Center nor the campground manager can modify your reservation. Access is straightforward from I-70 (Exit 205, Silverthorne/Dillon) with a northbound run on Highway 9 to the reservoir plan accordingly for seasonal road and weather conditions in the high Rockies.
