“Views are gorgeous but if you have a tent, good luck. The ground is basically gravel and you can't stake down the tent.”

Elliott Creek Campground sits on the northwest shore of Green Mountain Reservoir just south of the dam, accessed from Highway 9 via Heeney Road between Silverthorne and Kremmling. The campground offers 19 standard sites in total 17 that accommodate both RVs and tents and two tent-only sites designed for tent camping and smaller trailers rather than full-service RV hookups. Vault toilets are on site, but no other water or hookup facilities are listed, so plan to bring your own water and supplies. Because the reservoir is an active boating area, all motorized watercraft must be inspected for Aquatic Nuisance Species and may only be launched from a monitored ramp; the Heeney Marina on the west shore below the town of Heeney operates during daylight hours throughout the season. Reservations are handled through Recreation.gov; note that once your reservation start date has begun neither the Recreation.gov Contact Center nor the campground manager can modify the booking, so confirm dates and party details before arrival. The setting opens quickly onto water-based recreation Green Mountain Reservoir is a hub for boating, kayaking, water skiing and windsurfing, and anglers commonly catch rainbow and brown trout as well as kokanee salmon. Beyond the reservoir, the broader White River National Forest provides a wide palette of outdoor options: hiking, mountain biking and auto touring on forest roads, horseback riding and horse camping, organized interpretive programs, OHV routes around Spring Creek at the northern Gore Range, and winter-sport opportunities when snow is on the ground. Wildlife is part of the scene year-round elk, bighorn sheep, and a variety of alpine species inhabit nearby ridges and nearby attractions include the high-country vistas and interpretive exhibits of Rocky Mountain National Park (Trail Ridge Road is a popular summer drive). Check seasonal opening dates, fees and current trail or launch requirements on Recreation.gov before you go.
