“Campground was great. Camp sites were not on top of each other. Bathrooms were very clean. Will definitely return next year. Loved that it was close to the reservoirs. Fishing was great! ”
“Very nice campground. Spacious sites water available.”
“The campground itself was excellent. The 10 mile dirt road to get to it was tough. It was very rough and needed to be grated or leveled off. We had to go very slow pulling a trailer and the 10 miles took us 45 minutes. ”

Thirty Mile Campground sits on the banks of the Rio Grande River about a mile below the Rio Grande Reservoir, in a meadow threaded by Squaw Creek and shaded by mature spruce and aspen. The campground contains 35 campsites, all configured to accommodate both RVs and tents, and many sites offer creek-side views while the rest remain pleasantly shaded. There are no electric hookups, but drinking water is available and firewood is sold on site. Day visitors will find ample parking; however, stock unloading and horse trailers are not permitted, so Thirty Mile is not a staging area for pack stock even though it serves a lot of backcountry users. Fees are charged for the summer season Friday before Memorial Day through Labor Day Weekend at $20 per night for a single site and $40 per night for a double site. For facility-specific questions, the campground can be reached at (805) 434-1996. Recreation at Thirty Mile centers on river activities and access to the Weminuche Wilderness: anglers, canoeists and swimmers take advantage of the Rio Grande here, and interpretive programs are offered regularly at the campground. Two nearby trailheads Squaw Creek and Weminuche Pass provide direct access into the Weminuche Wilderness and connect to the Continental Divide National Scenic Trail, making the area popular with hikers, backpackers and horse packers who head into the San Juan Mountains' rugged terrain (including three 14,000-foot peaks across the wilderness). Beyond the immediate riverside setting, the broader Rio Grande National Forest supports a wide range of activities year-round, from auto touring and wildlife viewing to winter sports and OHV riding, so Thirty Mile makes a convenient base for both river recreation and longer wilderness excursions.
