“This campground is very peaceful. The host was attentive. The views are limited but the sound of the stream running along the campground provides a unique ambiance. ”
“This is one of our favorite campgrounds! The trees and steam are beautiful. Eddy is such a pleasant campground host. Always friendly interactions as if we’ve known him forever. The bathrooms are always kept as clean as can be.”
“Someone was in my lot when I arrived at 1:30. They were supposed to be gone by 12 noon. The camp host was not at the campground that day. I had to sit and wait for those in my lot for 30min for them to leave.”

St. Charles Campground sits at about 8,600 feet in the Wet Mountains, a mile west of Lake Isabel where aspen and tall Douglas-fir shade sites along the banks of St. Charles Creek. The site count is small and intimate: TOTAL CAMPSITES: 14 of those, 11 are both RV sites & tent sites, 2 are RV sites, and 1 is a tent site. Sites include tent pads and can accommodate small trailers; every campsite has a bear-proof food locker, a picnic table, a fire ring and a fire pedestal. Campground facilities are basic but practical for back-to-nature stays: accessible vault toilets, drinking water from a hand pump, and bear-proof trash dumpsters; firewood is sold by the on-site campground host. The setting is quiet and water-centered you'll hear St. Charles Creek tumbling over shaded boulders and the campground is reached via the Lake Isabel Recreation Area south of Pueblo on State Highway 165. Recreation at Lake Isabel and the surrounding National Forest is varied: the lake is stocked with brown and rainbow trout and an accessible lakeshore path provides multiple fishing spots, while brook trout live in St. Charles Creek. Several trails begin in the recreation area, including Snowslide and Cisneros; both allow motorcycle use and Cisneros is a challenging route for ATVs. A nearby lodge rents paddle and rowboats and offers groceries and a restaurant, and golf courses are about 15 minutes away. Important practical notes: reservations and cancellations are handled through Recreation.gov cancellations up to two days before a reservation incur a $10 cancellation fee; cancelling the day before or on arrival will cost a $10 service fee and forfeiture of the first night's use fee (including tax and any add-ons), and one-night reservation cancellations forfeit the entire amount paid. A no-show (no arrival and no cancellation by check-out time the day after scheduled arrival) is assessed a $20 service fee and forfeits the first night's rate, taxes and applicable add-ons. Refund requests must be submitted within seven days after the reservation end date; refunds go back to the original card for card payments, or a Treasury check is mailed for cash/check purchases (allow 6 8 weeks). Note also that unmanned aircraft (drones) are regulated on Forest Service lands and must follow applicable UAS rules and policies.
