“it would have been better if there without the bear ”
“Close to the lake, but really tight spacing. If a neighbor has a pop out the will be on top of your picnic table. That said - beautiful area and very nice hosts.”

Southside Campground sits on the south shore of Lake Isabel at about 8,600 feet, where bands of aspen and ponderosa pine shade a compact RV loop that meets the rocky bases of the Wet Mountains. The facility contains eight campsites all eight are designated RV sites on paved roads; each site is a pull-through so backing is not required. Sites were laid out for smaller rigs (designed for RVs under 30 feet and not suited for large slide-outs) and there are no electrical, water, or sewer hookups, though drinking water, vault toilets, picnic tables and campfire grills are provided. Lake Isabel itself is a 40-acre, Civilian Conservation Corps era reservoir stocked with brown and brook trout, and nearby St. Charles Creek also supports brook trout fishing; non-motorized boating and paddlecraft rentals are available at a nearby lodge. From the campground you can access short lakeside walks or longer outings: the Snow Slide Trail and the 15-mile Cisneros Trail (open to ATVs) sweep into the heart of the Wet Mountains and connect with the St. Charles Trail that climbs toward St. Charles Peak so hiking, bicycling, fishing, and paddling are the immediate draws here, while broader Pike and San Isabel forests offer climbing, horse riding, OHV routes, and abundant wildlife viewing across a much larger area. Getting here is straightforward: the recreation area lies south of Pueblo and is reached from Highway 165 into the Lake Isabel Recreation Area, with Southside Campground the first loop on the left as you enter. A small lodge near the lake provides boat rentals, groceries and a restaurant, and several golf courses sit roughly 15 minutes away. Reservations are handled through Recreation.gov and the campground enforces standard cancellation and no-show fees: cancellations made up to two days before arrival incur a $10 cancellation fee; canceling the day before or on the day of arrival triggers a $10 service fee plus forfeiture of the first night's use fee (one-night reservations forfeit the entire payment). No-shows are charged a $20 service fee and the first night's rate is forfeited. Refund requests must be submitted through your Recreation.gov profile within seven days after the reservation end date; refunds to cards are credited back, while cash or check payments are returned by mailed Treasury check (6 8 weeks). Finally, if you plan to fly an unmanned aircraft, be aware that drones are regulated on National Forest lands and must follow Forest Service rules and applicable laws.
