Tillie Creek sits among oak shade along the southern shore of Lake Isabella, offering direct access to the 11,000-acre reservoir that separates the Upper and Lower Kern Rivers. The campground has a total of 81 campsites, each configured to accommodate both RVs and tents, and operates year-round. In addition to individual sites, a group area that's wheelchair accessible can host gatherings from about 60 up to 150 guests, making this a workable spot for family reunions or multi-family outings. Practical facilities include an amphitheater used for campfire programs, a fish-cleaning station, a playground, and nearby marina services and boat ramps just south of the campground. The site is managed by Rocky Mountain Recreation Company (a division of ExplorUS); for facility-specific information, reservations or current fees, call (760) 376-1269 or speak with campground hosts comment forms are available from hosts or online. Water recreation is the primary draw: swimming, water-skiing and windsurfing are common year-round activities, and the lake fishes well in colder months for trout; anglers also target black and white crappie, bluegill, catfish and largemouth bass. Beyond the shoreline, Sequoia National Forest provides a broad palette of outdoor options biking, hiking, horseback riding and horse camping, interpretive programs, off-highway vehicle opportunities, and even overnight stays at fire lookouts or cabins in parts of the forest. Tillie Creek's location about 6 miles north of the town of Lake Isabella (accessible from Bakersfield via Highway 178 and then north on Highway 155) also makes it a convenient base for day trips to Sequoia National Park, the Trail of a Hundred Giants and the larger sequoia groves within the Giant Sequoia National Monument.
