Steven F ★ 1 · Sep 2024This was the last time I camp here with my family. I've been coming to these campgrounds for the last 30 years and we've put up with a lot these last 3. The first 2 nights there were no lights in the restrooms and when they finally turned on the electricity they ended up closing all the restrooms and put porter potty out. When I asked the camp host that men's toilet was clogged she replied that that was not her problem! Last year the restrooms were closed because of a drainage problem and now this. It sucks but I guess paying the extra money to have clean bathrooms, electricity and a shower will be worth it from now on.
Donald F ★ 4 · May 2024The grounds were pretty much unkept , Overgrown With foxtails. A couple of the spaces had hose bibs with threads on the end. Where was most of the others did not would’ve been helpful to have so We could fill up supply. Otherwise, it was very quiet. Our host Randy was very amiable since the park was relatively empty. He allowed us to pick whichever spot we wanted and even move to a different spot, which was super nice.
Mikhail P ★ 1 · Sep 2023The place is very crowded, but most importantly, the host doesn't manage it at all. We had a very noisy party next to our campground, and despite strict quiet rules on paper (10p to 8am), in practice, it was loud music and singing the whole night, and the host did not care at a slightest, despite multiple complaints. We ended up leaving after the first night, it was unbearable. Not recommended if you actually want to relax.

Hungry Gulch Campground sits on a pine-covered hillside at about 2,640 feet, roughly three miles inland from the western shore of Lake Isabella in Sequoia National Forest. Many campsites look out toward the lake from a distance, and the setting puts you close to both calm stretches of the Kern River and the lake's more active waterfront recreation. Lake Isabella itself covers more than 11,000 acres and offers over 38 miles of shoreline, where swimming, waterskiing and windsurfing are common midsummer activities. Anglers will find a mix of species in the reservoir black and white crappie, bluegill, blue and channel catfish, largemouth bass and rainbow trout while rainbow trout fishing is also available in nearby streams. Hikers can follow trails around the lake and along the Kern River; for safety and permit details related to the lake, consult the Forest Service information page at http://www.fs.fed.us/r5/sequoia/publications/rog/lake_hzds,_rgs,_sfty.pdf. The campground has 76 campsites that accommodate both RVs and tents, and each site provides a picnic table and campfire ring; the developed facilities include flush toilets and drinking water. There are no additional site-specific amenities listed, so contact the Sequoia National Forest office for current fees, reservation policies and seasonal openings facility-specific information is available by calling (760) 376-1269. Hungry Gulch is accessed from Bakersfield via Highway 178 to the town of Lake Isabella, then north on Highway 155 for about four miles, making it an easy base for lake-centered recreation. Beyond the immediate lakeshore activities, the broader Sequoia National Forest supports biking, horseback riding and horse camping, interpretive programs, fire lookouts/cabins overnight stays, off-highway vehicle use and extensive hiking and fishing opportunities across its varied elevations.
