About

Granite Flat Campground sits on the banks of the Truckee River between the water and Highway 89, roughly one mile south of Truckee and a short drive north of Tahoe City and Lake Tahoe. The site is shaded by stands of Jeffrey and lodgepole pine and puts anglers within easy reach of fly-fishing for rainbow trout on the Truckee; many campers also swim or tube in the river when flows and conditions allow. Hikers and mountain bikers will find direct access to long-distance routes nearby, including the Western States Trail, Five Lakes Trail and a stretch of the Pacific Crest Trail, while reservoirs to the north (Prosser, Boca and Stampede) and Lake Tahoe to the south expand options for boating, kayaking and additional fishing. Granite Flat also works well as a base for exploring Truckee's services restaurants, grocery and fuel are about a mile away and for day trips to nearby interpretive and historic trails, OHV areas and mountain-biking corridors in the Tahoe National Forest. The campground offers a total of 70 sites: 63 are set up to accommodate both RVs and tents and seven are tent-only walk-in sites (sites #69, #70, #71, #72, #73, #74 and #75), with parking provided outside those walk-in loops. Sites come as single-family or a limited number of double sites, and several are accessible; each campsite includes a picnic table, metal campfire ring and a bearproof food-storage locker, while vault toilets and potable drinking water are provided. Note that a group of sites lie immediately adjacent to busy Highway 89 and will be subject to vehicle noise those sites are #7, #9, #11, #13, #15, #17, #19, #21, #23, #47, #49, #51, #53, #67 and #68. Standard nonelectric fees are $22 per night for single sites and $44 per night for double sites. The facility is operated by Tahoe National Forest; because seasonal openings, reservation availability and specific access policies can change, check the forest's campground information or contact the office before you go.
