“Great location. Barb at the front gate was very pleasant and helpful. We loved being able to walk to Sunny side restaurant and the walking and biking trail along the lake.”
“Beautiful flat campsite. Easy walk to beach, bike trails, and restaurant. Very few campers in Oct. Perfect weather. Love this place!”
“Beautiful spot, close to nature and food. Late season was great because it was not crowded. Very clean grounds and bathrooms. ”

William Kent Campground sits on Lake Tahoe's west shore about 2 miles south of Tahoe City along California Highway 89, occupying more than 80 sites within a neighborhood setting where tall pines, cedars and firs create pockets of privacy amid shallow gullies and low ridges. The campground straddles the highway and includes a busy, well-used day-use area directly across the road for lake access, so expect easier access to water-based recreation but also some traffic noise compared with more remote sites. There are 79 sites in all: 76 that accommodate both RVs and tents and three glamping yurts. Standard sites have paved parking aprons, a picnic table, campfire ring and pedestal grill, plus a bear-proof food storage locker; flush toilets and drinking water are provided in the campground. The three yurts sit on wooden platforms and sleep a family of five or six on a futon and bunk beds with mattresses; they do not include cooking supplies or bedding, so plan to bring your own gear. Recreation at William Kent centers on Lake Tahoe: the day-use beach and launch across the street make swimming, boating and waterskiing immediate options, and anglers can expect kokanee salmon, mackinaw (lake trout), rainbow and brown trout in the lake. Bike routes that follow the western shore of Tahoe begin near the campground, making it a convenient base for multi-mile rides; the broader Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit also offers hiking, interpretive programs and visitor center resources for planning trips into places such as Desolation Wilderness (permits required). Reservations are handled through Recreation.gov (individual campsites are generally bookable up to six months in advance, group sites up to 12 months) and the site follows standard change and cancellation rules: a $10 service fee applies to most changes or cancellations, late cancellations may forfeit the first night's fee, no-shows can incur additional charges, and refunds must be requested within 14 days of departure. The campground has limited staffing call (530) 541-1537 for general information or 1-877-444-6777/Recreation.gov for reservations and detailed policies.
