Meeks Bay Resort sits on the west shore of Lake Tahoe at about 6,225 feet, where a long sandy beach and shallow bay meet forested slopes and granite outcrops. The property combines a range of lodging options the historic Kehlet Mansion and the Washoe House (also called the Point House), a collection of 12 lodges and 7 standalone cabins with traditional camping: a total of 97 campsites on the resort property. Those 97 sites are arranged across named loops (Cabin Row: 20 sites; Long Inner Loop: 6; Outer Camp Loop: 25; Resort Edge: 1; Short Inner Loop: 5; South Loop 1: 8; South Loop 2: 12; South Loop 3: 11; South Loop 4: 9) and include 21 glamping sites, 22 full-hookup RV sites (several pull-throughs that will take units up to 60 feet), and 54 tent sites. On-site conveniences geared to staying families and groups include day-use parking, a grill at the beach, hot private showers available with tokens, several public flush-restroom buildings, the Wa She Shu Grill for breakfast and lunch, and a main lodge shop carrying clothing, snacks, sundries and ice cream. The resort maintains boat/rental services for non-motorized craft kayaks and stand-up paddleboards are available for half- or full-day rental and the bay itself is managed to favor paddling and swimming (motorized craft are not allowed in the immediate bay). Meeks Bay's location makes it a convenient base for both shoreline recreation and backcountry routes: the Meeks Bay Trail climbs toward Phipps Pass and the Sierra's Desolation Wilderness, while the Tahoe Rim Trail and dozens of other trailheads are readily accessible. Anglers can find kokanee, mackinaw, rainbow and brown trout in the broader basin, and the Washoe Tribe has been involved in Lahontan cutthroat trout restoration in the area. Important policies to note before booking: pets are not allowed anywhere on the resort. Reservations (lodging, RV and tent sites) require a non-refundable down payment equal to 50% of the full daily rental rate, with the remaining balance due no later than 30 days before check-in; Recreation.gov will send up to two reminder emails (seven days and 24 hours before the 30-day deadline). If you reserve within 30 days of arrival you must pay the full amount at booking. Changes that result in completely different stay dates incur a $10 change fee per reserved site (adding or removing nights or changing campsites ahead of arrival does not carry that fee), and cancellations forfeit the down payment; canceling within 14 days of check-in also forfeits the down payment, one night's rental and the $10 cancellation fee. The resort holds paid reservations until the following day at check-out time unless you notify management; otherwise late check-in may result in cancellation without refund. Access to Meeks Bay is via Highway 89 on Lake Tahoe's west shore (from South Lake Tahoe head north on 89; from Truckee go south on 89; from the lake's northeast shore follow Highway 28 to 89).
