“The road from Hwy 89 to the entrance is terrible at best. Check in was easy this time. Previous times were 30 minutes or more. It's a pleasure having the dump station open again.”
“Awesome campsite with the meadow right behind my tent. Got to hear a bunch of coyotes at night and even saw some bears in the day. Very well maintained for how popular this place this and staff was more than friendly! ”
“Awesome campground. Quiet, wooded, beautiful real camping. Super clean restrooms. Fantastic location. Love this place”

Fallen Leaf Campground sits on the north shore of Fallen Leaf Lake and beside Taylor Creek, less than a mile from the south shore of Lake Tahoe and the facilities along Highway 89. The campground provides 193 campsites in total: 187 sites that accommodate both tents and RVs (each with a paved parking apron, picnic table, pedestal grill and campfire ring) and six glamping units (yurts) set on wooden platforms. The yurts sleep a family of five or six and include an electric light, a space heater, a futon and bunk beds with mattresses; they do not include cooking gear or bedding and have no extra electrical outlets. Scattered through the campground are coin-operated showers, accessible restrooms with flush toilets, potable water spigots, a camp host, a small camp store that sells firewood and basic supplies, and a public phone. Every site and yurt is equipped with a bear-proof food storage locker black bears are resident in the area, so proper food storage and caution are essential. The campground is typically open from mid-May through mid-October and is popular with visitors, so sites often fill quickly; individual sites are generally available for reservation six months in advance (group sites up to 12 months), and Recreation.gov handles bookings, changes and cancellations (a $10 service fee applies for most changes/cancellations; late cancellations may forfeit the first night's fee and no-shows can incur additional charges). For general information call the Lake Tahoe Basin office at (530) 541-1537 or use Recreation.gov (1-877-444-6777) for reservation actions and refund policies. Recreation at Fallen Leaf and in the surrounding Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit ranges from easy walks to technical alpine climbs. The Moraine Trail begins at the campground and is about a mile long; Glen Alpine and Mount Tallac trailheads are nearby for longer day hikes and access into the Desolation Wilderness, while the Pope-Baldwin bike path parallels Highway 89 for paved cycling along the south shore. Both Fallen Leaf Lake and Lake Tahoe support boating non-motorized and motorized plus watersports such as tubing, waterskiing and windsurfing; fishing is possible at both lakes (anglers typically report better success on Lake Tahoe), and swimming is allowed though there are no designated swim areas on Fallen Leaf (Pope and Baldwin beaches on the south shore of Tahoe provide developed swim access). Directly across Highway 89 the Taylor Creek Visitor Center offers interpretive programs, guided walks on the Rainbow Trail and access to the Stream Profile Chamber, and the broader LTBMU also supports activities such as horseback riding, horse camping, off-highway vehicle areas, overnight fire lookouts/cabins, and seasonal interpretive programming so campers here can base a stay on a mix of lake play, trail exploration, wildlife viewing (squirrels, raccoons, chipmunks and many bird species) and cultural visits such as the nearby Tallac Historic Site. Prominent peaks visible from the area include Cathedral Peak (about 8,200 feet) and Mount Tallac (9,735 feet), and while campsites themselves do not generally have lake views, the walk to Fallen Leaf's forested shoreline brings you close to the clear water and mountain reflections.
