“Spacious, clean and amazing views. The big fire pits were amazing.”
“Very noisy campers next to us. Up yelling all night. Didn’t sleep very much because of this. Would like a refund. ”

Pioneer Trail Group Campground sits in a shaded stand of conifers at about 5,600 feet on the southwest side of Pinecrest Lake, roughly two miles from the lake's shoreline in the Pinecrest Recreational Area of Stanislaus National Forest. The site is organized into three group camps TOTAL CAMPSITES: 3 and all three are configured to accept both RVs and tents, though there are no electrical hookups or water/RV dump connections (expect dry camping). Campsites 1 and 3 each accommodate up to 50 people, while Site 2 is sized for larger gatherings and can hold up to 100 campers; each site includes a large shared campfire circle, picnic tables, and vault toilets. Pay showers are available a few miles away, winter camping is permitted on a first-come, first-served basis, and dogs are allowed provided they follow Tuolumne County leash rules. Recreation centers on Pinecrest Lake, a 300-acre reservoir with a 4-mile National Recreation Trail that loops the lake for an easy day hike, designated beach areas for swimming, and reliable rainbow trout fishing and boating opportunities; the campground itself provides quick access to those lake activities. Beyond the lake, Stanislaus National Forest offers a wider array of outdoor options visitor centers and interpretive programs, off-highway vehicle routes, picnicking areas, and winter-sports terrain and wildlife in the campground area commonly includes marmots, squirrels, coyotes and deer. For current fees, reservation windows and any seasonal access notes, check the Stanislaus National Forest pages or recreation.gov before you go, since winter sites are unreserved while summer group reservations and fee details are handled through forest service reservation systems.
