“Very nice campground in the woods near the lake. The camp host is especially nice and attentive. She was very caring and professional after we saw a bear cross the campground quite close to our site. ”
“ Such a peaceful place with beautiful scenery, but the best part was the wonderful camp host, Mary. She’s an absolute gem and made our stay truly unforgettable. Thank you so much, Mary”
“The camp host was great. The bathrooms were very clean. Beautiful place to camp!”

477-050 EAGLE LAKE ROAD
Open in Google Maps ↗
Christie Campground sits on the southwestern shore of Eagle Lake at about 5,100 feet, where a mix of pine and fir forest gives way to the lake basin formed where the Sierra Nevada meets the southern Cascades and the Modoc Plateau. Eagle Lake itself is a large, varied body of water roughly 22,000 acres and the third-largest natural lake in California so the recreation options spread well beyond the campsite: fishing for the Eagle Lake Rainbow Trout (a California Heritage Trout) is the draw for many anglers, while the wide lake supports swimming, kayaking, water-skiing and sail or power boating (there are no two-cycle restrictions on outboard motors or PWCs). The Eagle Lake Recreation Area is threaded by a 5.2-mile paved hiking and bike trail that links five campgrounds, day-use areas and the marina; the paved bike path actually begins at Christie, and miles of Forest Service roads and trails nearby are popular with mountain bikers, OHV riders and, in winter, snowmobilers. Because Christie is the campground farthest from the marina about a five-mile, roughly 10-minute drive it tends to be less crowded and attracts RV, trailer and tent campers who want a quieter, more spacious base on the lake's southwest shore. On the practical side, Christie has 66 campsites in total: 61 sites that accommodate both RVs and tents and 5 sites designated RV-only. Sites are grouped into loops Mahogany contains 20 sites and Manzanita 21 and nearly every campsite includes a paved parking spur, a picnic table and a campfire ring with grill; almost half of the sites feature pull-through spurs, and nine of those larger sites have been designated for groups. Many sites can be reserved in advance while others are available on a first-come, first-served basis; an RV dump station is located about two miles away for a $5 fee. The Eagle Lake Marina, a short drive from Christie, stocks gas and propane as well as fishing and camping supplies and offers showers and laundry, making a longer stay convenient. For facility-specific questions, reservations or up-to-date information about access and seasonal conditions, call the recreation area at (530) 825-3454.
