“The bathrooms were filthy & had actual feces all over. It was disgusting!”
“Thoroughly enjoyed Coyote Point! It was especially nice with the lake level FULL! My only complaint is I wish they would make it available throughout the year and not only May to Sept. ”

Coyote Point sits along the shoreline of New Hogan Lake in the brush-covered foothills of the Sierra Nevada, about 30 miles east of Stockton via CA Highway 26. The campground is essentially a single group site one campsite that accommodates both RVs and tents and is sized to host up to 50 guests located within the Oak Knoll Campground area. Practical amenities at the site are straightforward and aimed at groups: a large grill, a covered picnic shelter and a vault restroom. In summer, when daytime highs commonly climb above 90°F, the lake is the main draw; the campground provides convenient access for launching into the cooler water, and boat ramps around the reservoir make water skiing, wakeboarding, jet skiing and general boating easy to arrange. For up-to-date information on fees, reservations and seasonal access rules (including any vehicle length or RV hookups), contact the park office or Park Headquarters at 2713 Hogan Dam Road, Valley Springs, CA 95252; the Coyote Point/Oak Knoll address is 3027 South Petersburg Road, Valley Springs, CA 95252. The recreational options around Coyote Point are varied: New Hogan is a 4,400-acre reservoir with roughly 50 miles of shoreline when full, so anglers can expect year-round fishing for stripers, bass, crappie, bluegill and catfish notably, some of the biggest fish turn up in less than 25 feet of water. Hikers and equestrians can access the River of Skulls trail below the dam at Monte Vista Recreation Area, which also serves as the staging area for an eight-mile loop equestrian trail that winds along the lake and through chaparral; trail guides are available at the park office. There are bike routes on the lake's west side and directly adjacent to the group camping area, plus an easy three-mile connector between the park office and Acorn Campground. Other offerings in the broader park include two 18-hole disc golf courses, interpretive and campfire programs, and wildlife viewing opportunities the south shore is a designated area for watching wintering bald eagles while hunting with bow or shotgun is allowed only in designated areas during open season. For groceries, gas and basic camping supplies, nearby Valley Springs is the closest service point, and historic Mother Lode sites such as Carson Hill are within a short drive.
