“My stay was good until they canceled my reservation on me and then charged me anyways said they charged me to cancel crazy so they kept my money and made me leave 2 days early ”
“Nice camping site, no shade besides gazebo over the bench. Not too far from the water spigot and very close to the restroom. ”

Oak Knoll Campground sits on the shores of New Hogan Lake, a 4,400-surface-acre reservoir created when New Hogan Dam was completed in 1964. The lake can reach about 50 miles of shoreline and stretches nearly eight miles upstream to the confluence of the Calaveras River forks, so water is the dominant feature here: boat ramps ring the lake and the wide surface is well suited to water skiing, wakeboarding, jet skiing and general boating. Anglers come year-round for stripers, bass, crappie, bluegill and catfish with some of the largest fish found in less than 25 feet of water and the park supports a range of other outdoor pursuits listed at New Hogan, including biking, hiking, horseback riding, wildlife viewing, picnicking and playground space. Trails nearby include the "River of Skulls" route below the dam at Monte Vista Recreation Area, an eight-mile equestrian loop with a staging area on the lake, and a mix of bicycle routes on the lake's west side; trail guides are available at the park office. The foothill environment supports grey fox, mule deer, coyote, turkey, bobcat, mountain lion and rattlesnakes, and the south shore is a designated wildlife viewing area where bald eagles winter. Oak Knoll offers a relatively primitive camping experience with plenty of space across TOTAL CAMPSITES: 49 47 Both RV Sites & Tent Sites and 2 Tent Sites so it's a good fit for campers who value lakeside access and a quieter, less-developed campground footprint. Practical details such as current fees, reservation policies and specific on-site amenities are handled at the park headquarters (2713 Hogan Dam Road, Valley Springs, CA 95252) or at the Oak Knoll Campground address (2321 South Petersburg Road, Valley Springs, CA 95252); from Stockton, the park is about 30 miles east on CA-26, turning onto Hogan Dam Road and following signs to the campground. Nearby Valley Springs supplies groceries, gas and camping gear, and history buffs can explore Mother Lode sites like Carson Hill and the Black Bart Inn in San Andreas while visiting the area.
