THIS IS NOT OAK BOTTOM CAMPGROUND AT WHISKEYTOWN NATIONAL RECREATION AREA!!! CALL 530-359-2269 FOR INFO. Oak Bottom Campground sits on a gently sloping hillside in Six Rivers National Forest at about 700 feet elevation, its loop of campsites weaving through a mixed stand of Douglas fir and hardwoods. Large deciduous trees shade many sites, and the understory and trees attract a variety of wildlife, which adds to the quiet, woodsy character several miles back from major roads. The campground contains 26 total campsites; all 26 sites are set up to accommodate both RVs and tents, and each includes a picnic table and a grill. Vault toilets and a drinking water source are available within the campground, and a campground host may be on site to answer questions or provide local information. Recreation options radiate outward from Oak Bottom: the Salmon River is nearby and draws spring whitewater paddlers to its class 3 5 rapids, while summer visitors often use nearby river access points for swimming (many of those access areas are a short drive or walk from the loop). In fall, anglers looking for salmon and steelhead head to the Klamath River, recognized for strong runs. The broader Six Rivers National Forest supports activities from hiking, biking and auto touring to horseback riding, off-highway vehicle use, fishing, and overnight stays in historic fire lookouts or cabins. The small community of Somes Bar lies roughly 2.5 miles away and provides basic services propane, groceries, a post office and tackle at a general store. Oak Bottom is reached from Highway 96 by following Salmon River Road/Forest Highway 93 for about 2.3 miles; because fees, reservation policies, seasonal openings and road conditions can change, call 530-359-2269 or check with the Forest Service before you go to confirm availability and any specific access or amenity details.
