Hodgdon Meadow Campground sits at about 4,875 feet in a mixed conifer forest of red fir, incense-cedar, Ponderosa and lodgepole pine, with open meadows that erupt in wildflowers each summer. The campground contains 104 sites in two distinct areas: the main Hodgdon Campground loop has 100 sites, and a tent-only group area holds 4 sites (note: group sites are closed for the winter). Of the 104 total sites, 34 are sized for both RVs and tents while 70 are tent-only. Roads and parking spurs are paved; each campsite comes with a picnic table, fire ring and a food-storage locker, and flush toilets and drinking water are provided on site. A gas station and a small general store are about eight miles away at Crane Flat. Hodgdon Meadow is convenient to the Big Oak Flat entrance the campground lies roughly a half-mile from the Big Oak Flat Entrance Station on Highway 120 and it's about 25 miles (roughly a 45-minute drive) northwest of Yosemite Valley. Access into the park is generally via Highway 41 from Fresno, Highway 140 from Merced, or Highway 120 from Manteca. The campground is currently operated on a first-come, first-served basis; campers should download the Recreation.gov mobile app before arrival to pay for a site. That said, Yosemite's reservable campsites across the park follow a strict release schedule reservations open up to five months in advance at 7:00 a.m. PT on the 15th of each month and sites in Yosemite commonly sell out within minutes, so log in to your Recreation.gov account before the release time if you plan to reserve elsewhere in the park. Hodgdon is a good base for many of Yosemite's wide range of activities: short 2.5 3 mile roundtrip hikes lead to the Tuolumne and Merced Groves of giant sequoias, the White Wolf area and Tioga Road offer high-country trails and a 39-mile scenic drive toward Tuolumne Meadows, and Yosemite Valley (45 minutes away) provides extensive hiking, biking, rafting on the Merced River when water allows, ranger programs, historic sites and interpretive centers. Practical policies to note: canceling an individual site incurs a $10 service fee (and if canceled within 48 hours of arrival the first night's fee is also charged); group site cancellations within 14 days incur the $10 service fee plus the first night's use fee; single-night cancellations are exempt from the service fee; and no-shows are assessed a $20 service fee plus the first night's fee. Activities available throughout the park include auto touring, biking, boating and paddling, climbing, fishing, horseback riding, snowpark operations, swimming and wildlife viewing, making Hodgdon Meadow a versatile starting point for exploring Yosemite's varied landscapes.
