About

White Horse Lake Campground sits in the higher country of Kaibab National Forest about 19 miles southeast of Williams, Arizona, and roughly an hour's drive from Grand Canyon National Park's South Rim. The site lies near a popular fishing lake where anglers chase largemouth bass, crappie and bluegill, and the shoreline and nearby forest openings regularly draw deer and elk. The surrounding forest offers a variety of landscapes plateaus, ridgelines and trails and more than 300 miles of routes in the Kaibab allow visitors to push beyond the campground for hikes that range from short loops to long, rim-hugging treks; mountain bikers and wildlife watchers will find plenty to explore. Summer days generally reach the 80s to 90s with nights near 50°F, but monsoon thunderstorms can build quickly in July and August; snow is common December through March, and the area sits at about 6,600 feet elevation, so plan layers and check conditions before you go. The small lakeside concession known as The Bear Shack provides snacks and beverages at the site, and nearby towns such as Williams and Flagstaff supply larger services and cultural or historic stops. The campground itself has 88 sites in all: 80 sites that can accommodate both RVs and tents and 8 tent-only sites, spread across six loops Loop A (25 sites), Loop B (25 sites), Loop C (8 sites), Loop D (11 sites), Loop E (18 sites) and Loop F (1 site) plus a large group site that fits up to 60 visitors, several double sites and accessible sites. Sites include picnic tables, tent pads, campfire rings and grills; the campground supports tents, trailers and motorhomes up to 38 feet. Practical facilities on-site are simple but useful: water faucets, a small boat ramp, vault restrooms and trash bins. Access is by Forest Roads 110 and 109 from the Williams area; these are high-use dirt roads that can become rough during peak season and may be closed in winter due to snow, so a vehicle with adequate clearance is recommended and you should check road conditions before traveling. For current fees, reservations, closures or other facility-specific questions call the campground contact at +0000000.
