Dogtown Lake Campground sits in the pine country of Kaibab National Forest about a short drive south of Williams, Arizona, reached by a few miles on gravel Forest Roads 140 and 132. The campground rings a small, tree-lined lake at roughly 7,050 feet elevation and looks toward Bill Williams Mountain; the lake's name comes from the prairie dog towns that once occupied the surrounding meadows. There are 55 campsites in total (all configured for both RVs and tents), arranged in two loops Loop A has 29 sites and Loop B has 25 plus a group site that can accommodate up to 80 people overnight. Sites are level and accessible, with a mix of pull-through and back-in options suitable for RVs and tents. Basic amenities include restrooms, potable water faucets and centralized trash collection; there is no on-site dump station, so larger rigs should plan accordingly. Seasonal conditions matter here: daytime highs in summer typically run into the 80s 90s with cool nights near 50°F, quick-building monsoon storms are common in July and August, and snow is frequent December through March. For current fees, reservations and any access advisories, contact the forest office at +0000000. Recreation at Dogtown Lake centers on water and trail activities. The lake is stocked with trout, crappie and channel catfish, and the calm surface is suitable for canoeing, kayaking and small electric boats (single motors one horsepower or less are permitted). Close to the lake you'll find a guided nature trail and a hiking route that climbs to an overlook on Davenport Hill; the immediate area also draws mountain bikers and anglers. Beyond the campground, Kaibab National Forest offers a wider network of opportunities over 300 miles of trails, visitor centers, interpretive programs, wildlife viewing, horse riding and winter sports while the South Rim of Grand Canyon National Park lies a little over an hour to the north and the towns of Williams and Flagstaff supply groceries, fuel and restaurants. Practical tip: the last miles are on gravel forest roads, cell service can be intermittent, and with no dump station on site you'll want to empty gray/black tanks before arrival or plan for services in town.
