Rising Star Campground sits on the Arkansas River at Pool 3, a working lock-and-dam stretch where anglers come specifically for the tailwater fishing below Joe Hardin and Emmitt Sanders locks. The riverbank is framed by a mix of riverine forest and the rolling cotton fields that characterize this stretch of southeast Arkansas; the site elevation is about 193 feet. Red fox are commonly spotted near the campsites and a variety of waterfowl live along the shore, so wildlife viewing will often interrupt a quiet morning or an evening cast. Boat launching for larger craft is available a short drive away at Trulock Park and Sheppard Island Park, and hunters use the nearby forests and waterways for upland and duck seasons. Summers here get hot and humid routinely climbing into the upper 90s while winters tend to be mild, so plan clothing and camping gear accordingly. The campground itself contains 25 sites total: 24 sites that accommodate both RVs and tents and one tent-only site. Most sites provide electric and water hookups, and the loop is supported by hot showers, a dump station and a playground for families; a single accessible day-use group shelter seats up to 60 people and must be reserved in advance. On-site recreation concentrates on fishing, boating (with nearby launches), picnicking and playground use, plus informal water sports and wildlife viewing along the river. Practical details such as current fees, nightly reservation rules and seasonal openings can change, so contact the park office or the managing agency before you go; the campground is reached from the US-65 corridor near Linwood, roughly a 12-mile drive from Pine Bluff, where you'll also find groceries and other visitor services.
