Notrebes Bend Park is a small, low-key riverfront campground sitting directly on the Arkansas River just downstream from Wilbur D. Mills Dam. The site's 30 campsites are configured to accommodate both RVs and tents, and each site provides 50-amp electric service, a drinking-water hookup and a campfire ring practical amenities that make the campground friendly to larger rigs as well as tent campers. A comfort station in the campground offers restrooms and hot showers, and a paved boat ramp gives straightforward access to the river below the dam. Twenty-four of the 30 sites can be reserved in advance; for current fees, seasonal openings or other policies, check the managing agency's website before you go. Access brings you into a rural stretch of Arkansas about 30 miles southeast of DeWitt, reached via the Tichnor/Wilbur D. Mills Road corridor, so plan for a quiet drive and limited nearby services. What sets Notrebes Bend apart is its river setting and wildlife draw: the campground sits along the Mississippi Flyway, so spring and fall bring a high volume of migratory birds and steady opportunities for birdwatching. Anglers come for the tailwater fishing below Wilbur D. Mills Dam largemouth bass, crappie and bream are common, and catfishing is a particular local focus while boating and other water sports are convenient from the campground's ramp. The broader Park area also offers picnic sites, a playground and sport facilities, and nearby water features such as Merrisach Lake and Coal Pile Lake (a state waterfowl rest area) broaden options for hunting and wildlife viewing. Cultural and historic interest is close at hand: Arkansas Post National Memorial and the Dale Bumpers White River National Wildlife Refuge are both short drives away for anyone wanting to combine fishing and riverside camping with regional history and refuge-style wildlife viewing.
