Merrisach Lake Campground sits on the banks of Merrisach Lake and the Arkansas Post Canal in eastern Arkansas's bottomland hardwoods, where the pool between Wilbur D. Mills Dam and Lock No. 2 widens into a network of backwaters and shorelines. The campground contains 69 campsites arranged across five loops Loop A and Loop B each have 14 sites, Loop C has 5, Loop D has 16, and Loop E has 18 so you'll find a mix of smaller clusters and larger, more private stretches. Most of the 67 sites that accommodate both RVs and tents come with electric and water hookups, and there are two tent-only sites for lighter-weight, walk-in camping. Practical facilities include hot showers, a dump station, a boat ramp for launching into Pool 2, a playground for kids, and two large group picnic shelters that each hold up to 75 guests. A few campsites back right up to the lake, offering immediate water access; the rest sit under the dense canopy common to this lowland landscape. Recreation here centers on water and wildlife: Pool 2 offers 10,600 acres of water and about 96 miles of shoreline, with nationally recognized bass and crappie fishing and reliable catfishing in the dam tailwaters (Joe Hardin Dam upstream and Wilbur D. Mills downstream are productive spots). The area is also on the Mississippi Flyway, so migration peaks bring huge concentrations of songbirds, ducks, geese and butterflies good for birding and wildlife viewing as well as seasonal hunting opportunities on surrounding public lands. The campground supports boating, picnicking, playground use and basic water sports, and the nearby Arkansas Post National Memorial and the Dale Bumpers White River National Wildlife Refuge add historical and refuge-layered outings to a stay. For practical matters like current fees, reservation windows, seasonal openings and any vehicle or boat access rules, contact the park or check the official reservation website before you go; the park is reached from DeWitt by heading south on US-165 and then following local roads toward Merrisach Lake, so plan on a drive along state and county routes to reach this more remote stretch of the Arkansas River system.
