Cowhide Cove Campground sits on the forested shore of Lake Greeson along the Little Missouri River in Pike County, Arkansas, offering direct access to a 12-mile stretch of lake with about 7,260 surface acres for boating, fishing and lakeside hiking. The lake's clear water and four marinas support a full range of water activities from fishing for largemouth, spotted and white bass, crappie and catfish to water skiing, tubing and cruising and the tailwaters below the dam sustain a healthy rainbow trout and smallmouth fishery. Wildlife is a strong presence here: loblolly and shortleaf pine, sweet gum and oak dominate the uplands while bottomland hardwoods line creeks, and winter brings southern bald eagles and waterfowl that draw birders. Lake Greeson also offers long-distance recreational routes and points of interest beyond the campground: a 31-mile cycle trail, the Chimney Rock formation, a short nature trail that leads to an old cinnabar mine, and managed lands for hunting deer, turkey and small game. The campground itself contains 48 campsites total 46 sites set up to accommodate both RVs and tents and 2 tent-only sites with the practical features most groups expect: picnic tables at each site, ground and pedestal grills, lantern poles, a boat ramp, a sandy swim beach, a playground, hot showers and a dump station. A short trail inside the campground gives families and birders a quick nature loop, and nearby concessions and private lodgings around the lake provide fuel, boat rentals and supplies. Cowhide Cove is reached from Highway 27 south of Kirby, roughly an hour's drive west of Hot Springs, and the climate across the seasons ranges from mild, humid springs and falls to hot, humid summers and variable winters. Fees, reservation windows and seasonal closures can change, so plan to check current rates and make campsite reservations through the park's reservation system or by contacting the park office before you go.
