Buffalo Point sits on the banks of the free-flowing Buffalo National River where sheer limestone bluffs, open grassy meadows and upland hardwoods frame a wide ribbon of water that runs 135 miles through the Arkansas Ozarks. The campground itself contains 109 sites 80 of them configured for both RVs and tents and 29 tent-only arranged into small loops (Loop A: 22 sites, B: 13, C: 16, D: 22, E: 7) plus five group sites and three pavilion sites (Pavilions 1 3). Sites offer water and electrical hookups, and quirky touches like a classic pay telephone remain on the property. Buffalo Point was developed as a state park in the 1930s by the Civilian Conservation Corps and remains the only area in the Buffalo National River park with a restaurant; that facility operates daily from Memorial Day through Labor Day and on weekends from mid-April to Memorial Day Weekend and again from Labor Day Weekend to mid-October. Access is by Highway 268 east of Yellville (reached from Highway 14) and by the same corridor from points south on Highway 65; reservations, fees and cancellation rules are handled through Recreation.gov, so check the site for current rates and policies before you go. Days at Buffalo Point are geared to water and trail recreation: paddling ranges from quick rapids to slow pools, anglers find plenty of stretches for casting, and nearby trailheads such as the Indian Rockhouse Trail offer compact hikes among bluffs and springs. The campground's loop layout gives options for quieter family sites or larger group gatherings at the dedicated sites and pavilions, while evenings are often spent around campfires preparing for another day on the river. For history and geology between trips on the water, guided tours of the Rush Historic District (an old zinc-mining town) are available, and Blanchard Springs Caverns is about an hour's drive for a cave tour. Practical amenities are concentrated at Buffalo Point the seasonal restaurant, the water and electrical hookups, and the pay phone but the larger Buffalo National River experience extends beyond the campground into paddling, fishing, hiking and wildlife viewing across this undammed stretch of the Ozarks.
