Cranfield Park sits on the clear water of Norfork Lake about five miles east of Mountain Home, accessible off US 412/62 with a short drive down Cranfield Road to the park entrance. The campground occupies wooded river island shoreline that gives many sites direct lake views and substantial shade; the surrounding landscape is the Ozark pattern of densely wooded hills and hollows where the North Fork River feeds into the 22,000-acre reservoir with some 550 miles of shoreline. Norfork alternates between open, breezy stretches good for sailing and larger boats and tight, secluded coves that are perfect for water-skiing, paddlecraft or finding a quiet fishing spot. A marina and a boat ramp at Cranfield make getting on the water straightforward, and the larger network of marinas around the lake offers rentals, fuel and related services; public lands nearby also attract hunters during local seasons. The campground offers 71 developed sites in all: 66 are set up to accommodate both RVs and tents while five are tent-only, and many sites include electric hookups. Within the park you'll find two playgrounds, an amphitheater and two reservable day-use group shelters, plus a 0.75-mile nature trail that departs from the loop for close-in birding and seasonal leaf-peeping; longer hikes, including the Robinson Point National Recreation Trail, are a short drive away. Fishing is a major draw bass, walleye, crappie, bream and catfish are common in the lake and activities across the recreation area include boating, water sports, wildlife viewing, picnicking, environmental-education opportunities, off-highway-vehicle riding on designated routes, and campground-style recreation. Reservations are accepted for sites and group shelters; note that cancellations made up to two days before a reservation start date incur a $10.00 cancellation fee.
