TYLER BEND VISITOR CENTER
Open in Google Maps ↗
Tyler Bend Campground sits along a quiet stretch of the Buffalo National River roughly 11 miles northwest of Marshall in the Arkansas Ozarks, where the river alternates between running rapids and glassy pools beneath high limestone bluffs. The campground's visitor center is open year-round and houses exhibits on local plants and animals and an auditorium that hosts educational programs useful for planning paddling runs or interpretive hikes before you set out. The site inventory is precise: there are 44 campsites in all 26 that will take either an RV or tent, 2 RV-only sites, and 16 tent-only sites and all non-electric site fees are $20 per night for up to six people. A group tent area is available for larger gatherings (10 25 people) at $50 a night; the park uses standard federal reservation and cancellation rules (see Recreation.gov for current policies and reservations). The campground also offers a day-use pavilion and a mix of walk-in and drive-in options, so you can choose a quick pull-in spot or a more secluded short hike from your vehicle. Recreation at Tyler Bend centers on the river and the surrounding trail network. The Buffalo is known for smallmouth bass, catfish and sunfish, but an Arkansas fishing license is required anywhere on the river, so be sure to bring one. Paddle seasons here tend to stretch longer than on other stretches of the park if rains hold up, you can find good kayaking and tubing into mid- to late summer while shorter float or day trips are easy to stage from Tyler Bend. Hikers can reach the Collier Homestead, a restored 1930s Ozark dwelling, and access the Buffalo River Trail from the nearby Collier trailhead; that trail links with the Ozark Highlands Trail farther upstream. Wildlife viewing is a quiet reward here: expect pasture-edge birds, deer, and the occasional river otter along the banks. Practical notes sites are non-electric, plan for pack-in/potentially walk-in gear for some spots, and check the visitor center for current river conditions and program schedules before you go.
