“Clean. quiet, pleasant in the off-season for our stay.”
“The camping was great, the high water made for bad fishing. Guess that’s why it’s called fishing and not catching. ”

Chilatchee Creek Campground sits on the shoreline of William "Bill" Dannelly Reservoir, a broad reach of the Alabama River that covers roughly 27 square miles and weaves more than 500 miles of shoreline through the Black Prairie Belt. The site feels like a transition from open prairie to mixed hardwood and pine forest: low rolling hills and rich dark soils give way to creekside trees and long water views where anglers cast for bass, crappie, bluegill and catfish. Boating and watersports are immediate draws the campground includes a boat ramp and fishing dock while upland pockets and riparian edges attract white-tailed deer and wild turkey, making bow hunters and birders likely to encounter wildlife. Chilatchee Creek is also a local hub for competitive fishing; several tournaments and annual festivals are held in the area, so expect busy weekends during peak season and good opportunities for catching fish both from shore and by boat. The campground provides a full range of visitor services concentrated in a compact, waterfront setting. There are 52 total campsites, and all 52 are set up to accommodate both RVs and tents; earlier facility listings reference 33 family sites with electric hookups, and the site currently advertises service buildings with flush toilets, showers, drinking water, laundry facilities and a dump station. Other onsite conveniences include fish-cleaning stations and a playground for families. Access is by county roads southeast of Alberta roughly a 10 15 mile drive from town via County Road 29 and Chilatchee Creek Road so plan for a short rural drive to reach the campground. For fees, reservations, seasonal openings and any special regulations for hunting or boating, check with the managing office or the park website before you go, and be sure you have the required licenses and registrations for fishing and hunting.
