Travis R ★ 5 · Sep 2025We ferried in about 150 yards on a dingy from our boat anchored in Mirror Harbor to the trailhead. Good shoes/boots are recommended for the hike in, which was a lovely 30 minutes through the bush on a clearly maintained trail that has several short wet/slippery spots. The cabin is spacious for 4 or more folks. A few dishes, pots, pans, cups, cutlery, and even a propane BBQ were found in the kitchen and deck area and a few types of dry goods were also present that campers had left behind. Some candles and matches, books and games were also found in the cabin. Overall a wonderful experience enjoying the views while soaking in the outdoor tub and bathhouse and accommodations at the cabin.
Patricia P ★ 4 · Jul 2025No firewood, had to gather driftwood, made a trip to Pelican to get two 10 gallon Rubbermaid totes of firewood. It was rainy and chilly enough where a fire in the wood stove helped warm the cabin up. The wood stove has a small burner chamber and the wood had to be cut again to fit. The chimney needs to a good brush out from top to bottom. The outhouse is getting full, pretty gross.
Celeste W ★ 4 · Jan 2025White Sulphur Springs is best enjoyed during the colder months in my opinion. Snuggling up in the cabin and freezing on your way to the warm tub, while enjoying the stars and silence of the forest, or the sea crashing on the beach. We visit a few times a year. This trip we found much garbage from previous visitors strewn about the grounds, in the bathhouse, and in the cabin. The woodstove needs repairs as well. And the wood storage is almost depleted. I suspect more visitors than usual have been visiting during the summer, and being less respectful. It won't stop us! Please pack out your beer cans folks!

White Sulphur Springs Cabin sits on the north shore of Bertha Bay on Chichagof Island, about 65 miles northwest of Sitka inside the West Chichagof-Yakobi Wilderness. This Forest Service listing is a single site in the recreation inventory (total campsites: 1) and is recorded as serving both RV and tent site categories, though access is by boat only and the primary accommodation is a 12' x 14' Pan Abode-style cabin that sleeps up to six on two double and two single plywood bunks. The cabin provides basic, hard-sided shelter with a wood stove, table and benches, cooking counter, broom, an axe or splitting maul and an outhouse toilet; it does not include mattresses, cooking utensils, potable water or other personal gear. Visitors must supply sleeping bags and pads, a stove and cookware, food, toilet paper, garbage bags, lantern and a fire extinguisher, plus rain gear and boots. There is no reliable water source at the site. Because the cabin is in designated wilderness, you are responsible for your own travel arrangements and safety; boaters should consult local tide tables and USGS Sitka D-8 and D-7 topo maps before attempting Mirror Harbor anchorage (local knowledge is recommended). Reservations allow only one change of start or end date after that you must cancel and rebook so plan travel carefully. The area around the cabin is defined by spruce and hemlock forest sweeping down to rocky coastal cliffs and surf, with a natural warm spring roughly 50 feet from the building that many visitors use at no fee (note that reserving the cabin does not guarantee exclusive use of the springs). Recreation immediately available includes hiking along the fairly level 0.9-mile White Sulphur Springs Trail from Mirror Harbor, fishing and boating off Bertha Bay, photography and wildlife viewing; Lake Elfendahl and Lake Morris are about a two-hour hike inland, while the Dry Pass Trail to Sea Level Slough can be hard to follow and requires lower tides to cross. Brown bears frequent the vicinity, so carry bear-aware gear and use appropriate food storage. For fishing regulations check the Alaska Department of Fish and Game, and remember the site is accessible year-round only as weather and sea conditions permit.
